Countdown: With Less than Two Months to Go, There's Plenty to Look Forward To

With less than two months to go until the 2010 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO, we thought it would be a good time to share some of the activities that AAO-HNSF President Ronald B. Kuppersmith, MD, MBA, is looking forward to.

“The things at the meeting that I am looking forward to the most are the many excellent speakers who will give named lectures,” Kuppersmith noted.

Presidential Citations recognize individuals selected by President Kuppersmith for their outstanding contributions and dedication to the Academy and Foundation. Other awards will be presented

The Annual Meeting Resident Experience

Even though the Academy works tirelessly in countless forums and ways that most of us never see, for many of us, the Academy has long been defined by our annual meeting. From the time we were residents, we have been enthralled by the breadth of scientific and clinical information and the expansive opportunities for community and social connection that this convention represents. Over the years, my favorite parts of the meeting

Things to Do in Boston

Paul Revere. Sam Adams. Faneuil Hall. Fenway Park. The Boston Marathon! The name “Boston” conjures all of those historic names—and this September, it will also mean the AAO-HNSF 2010 Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO! You come to the annual meeting for education, for learning about the specialty, and for mingling with friends.

The theme of this year’s meeting is “Helping you reach your personal best.” And like training to reach your personal best in a marathon, you can start now to prepare for Boston. Plan your meeting schedule, decide what courses and lectures to attend, and where to meet your friends. But in your plans, see if you can find time away from then Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, because there’s so much else to see

Reconnecting with Your Colleagues

Besides being a world class forum for education and new research, the annual meeting is also a great place to meet and greet old and new colleagues. In addition to the hundreds of instruction courses, new research presentations, and committee meetings, we’ve tried to insert numerous opportunities for you to relax, socialize, and enjoy the company of your peers.

The popular alumni events will be held on Tuesday evening, and always serves as an opportunity for former colleagues to rekindle their professional relationships and catch up with old friends. You can check the Academy website (www.entnet.org/annual_meeting) to find out where your school is getting together.

For new members and first-time attendees, there’s a reception and learning session on Saturday,

Social Media and Networking at the 2010 AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO

You might be saying to yourself… “Just what is social media and how can I use it?” Giving attendees real-time access to news and information as the meeting unfolds, social media and networking sites are additional tools designed to make the Annual Meeting experience one to remember. In addition to the benefits for attendees, the social media and networking tools will allow colleagues that couldn’t make it to Boston, and the general public, to actively participate in a number of sessions through video submissions, blog comments, tweets, and quick polls.

We will live-tweet important news and updates all day, each day to keep attendees on track during the meeting. In addition, we will

Instruction Courses

The 2010 Instruction Course Program is packed with great educational opportunities that can assist members to reach their personal best. The Instruction Course Advisory Committee (ICAC) has really put together a top-notch program and we are excited for meeting attendees to experience it in Boston.

The ICAC effectively identified a curriculum that our members can use to stay current and learn the how-tos of otolaryngology—head and neck medicine.  In addition to our core courses and excellent slate of speakers, we’ve also added a new list of courses focused on robotics and its use in the thyroid and in the mouth.

This year, we had just over 600 submissions. We will be offering 347 courses, totaling 418 credit hours. New offerings represent almost 25

Helping You Reach Your Personal Best

When we say “Helping you reach your personal best,” we do that  during the annual meeting in many ways: by helping you meet your own educational
