Ways to Give

Individuals, families, business and friends can make a significant difference in securing the future of the Academy and Foundation’s high-quality programs that you have just read about. Generous donors of the past have made significant contributions to the Foundation’s success through philanthropic gifts.

Establish a Named Endowment Fund
Establishing a Named Endowment Fund directly benefits those programs most in need, as directed by the Academy’s and Foundation’s Boards of Directors, on an annual basis. Below are the details about creating a Named Endowment Fund:

  • A Named Endowment Fund is an irrevocable fund in which the assets are held and invested by the Foundation as part of its pooled endowment fund. The income earned by the fund is available to support the Academy and Foundation’s work. The principal remains invested to generate income, assuring a predictable source of funds for years to come.
  • A donor may choose to build this Named Endowment Fund over time by providing an initial major gift to initiate the Fund and then providing regularly scheduled gifts to bolster the Fund and its accrued interest. For example, a donor could decide to create a Named Endowment Fund with a gift of $1,000,000 and then to make four annual contributions of $1,000,000. The Academy and Foundation would be pleased to structure this gift to accommodate a pledge payment to fit the donor’s intent.
  • We do request that donors designate the proposed Named Endowment Fund as unrestricted, which enables the Academy and Foundation to use the gift where the need is greatest. Unrestricted funds have supported ongoing efforts of the Foundation throughout its existence. Unrestricted funds are the highest priority of the Foundation because they provide the flexibility to promptly address critical needs or provide seed money for an exciting new idea.
  • Gifts of cash, appreciated securities, life insurance, or property are gift vehicles that may be used to establish a Named Endowment Fund. In most cases, donors can benefit from a tax deduction at the time a Fund is established and when additional contributions are made to the Fund.
